In our daily lives, the most repeated task is communication. We have to communicate with everyone on many topics. We communicate with others to manage tasks of our daily life, office tasks and other day-to-day life tasks. And when people talk to each other, we notice that some people speak very clearly and have great communication skills. And at the same time, we notice that some people need better communication skills. This one thing makes a great impact on our overall personality. The one thing that we often do in our daily lives is communication. When we meet with someone, the one thing we do is communication. Even during greetings, the one thing we do is communication.
Communication plays a vital role in our daily lives, so learning how to do it well is important. When you have good communication skills, you can help other people understand you and the ongoing situation. Many employers believe that good communication can help their companies be more productive.
Many people think that they cannot learn communication. But it is a skill that can be learnt and improved with constant effort and practice. Author, speaker and self-development coach Brian Tracy once said,
“Communication is a skill that you can learn. It’s like riding a bicycle or typing. If you’re willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.”
These 7 tips will help you better your communication skills.
1. Feeling of Importance
Some people only speak for themselves and don’t listen to others. Remember to make others feel that they are important to you. So, try to listen more and speak less than them. Here are very strong and proven two tips given to you.
- Try to ask questions. So the others will think that you are interested in their conversation. And also, you will automatically speak less.
- Repeat their name again and again. This is a scientifically proven fact that everyone likes to hear his name. So, try to ask others’ names during the conversation. This will make them think well about themselves, and they will subconsciously find the feeling of happiness from your side.
2. Understanding
Try to understand others. Understanding is the most important factor when you come to communication skills. Most of the relationships break just because of misunderstandings. They don’t understand each other or don’t try to understand each other. That’s why understanding is the most important factor in communication skills.
For example, you go to a shop. And the shopkeeper is an excellent communicator. He speaks all words properly. Takes proper pauses between discussions. And you ask him for a bottle of water, and he returns after half an hour with the biscuits. That’s when you would get the importance of understanding.
3. Body Gestures
Take a proper count of your body language during the conversation.
According to a study,
“Body Language makes up 57% of your whole conversation.”
Try to look into others’ eyes during conversation. This will automatically show yourself confidently in others’ eyes. Open yourself. Take a proper space. Use hand gestures during the conversation. You have to practice in this manner. For this purpose, you can take help from your friends and family. Try hard to use body gestures properly, and make your body language convincing during the conversation.
4. Appreciate Others
No man on Earth dislikes appreciation. Thousands of employees in the companies do work hard to get appreciation and promotion in their respective fields. Everyone does look for appreciation in every aspect of his life.
Try to appreciate others. This does not mean that you start flattering others. If someone asks for the keys to your car and you start appreciating him. It means that there is a certain body signal that subconsciously messages others that you appreciate them.
- Firstly, you can appreciate others with your words.
- Secondly, you can be an active listener. This will naturally sign others that you are interested and appreciate them.
- You can ask questions about the topic on which you are discussing. This also signs positively to others’ minds that you appreciate them.
5. Conversational Threading
This is the most powerful trick I have found to better my communication skills. Conversational Threading means trying to link dots during the conversations.
For example, if someone comes to you and says that I always wanted to become a doctor but couldn’t. I became a software engineer. So you can ask about the medical field or doctor. You can also ask about software engineering. Or why did they want to become a doctor or physician? Then join one question with the other on the relevant topic in the same threading manner.
If sometimes you find yourself in some difficulty, you don’t have anything to say. You can use this trick and never be out of words during a conversation.
6. Confidence
Try to be confident. Don’t speak like your hands are crumbling, your body is shivering, and you are sweating on your face and forehead.
Make yourself open. Take your space.
And when you speak, try to express yourself from your heart with proper confidence. Your voice should not be crumbled.
You try to speak properly, having yourself confident. But it doesn’t mean that you are speaking crap. For this, I usually use a rule,
“If YOU DON’T HAVE (something) TO SPEAK, DON’T SPEAK.”
7. Devices
Try to put aside your devices if someone is talking to you.
If anything can damage your reputation in others’ eyes, this is that thing. Imagine you are talking to someone, and another person is on his phone. This will be the most awkward and worst thing that others can do to you.
Suppose you use your phone after completing your words. While listening to others will also subconsciously make a very bad impression in others’ minds. And make them feel that you are not interested in them. Doing the same thing in your office will make a very big loss in your professional life.
Conclusion
Communication is very important in our daily and professional life. But like other skills, this is also a skill that can be learned and made better. By practising, we can enhance our communication skills. If we master this important skill, we can make a very good journey in our daily life, especially in our careers. There have been a lot of surveys conducted which tell us that soft skills will soon be in high demand in our professional careers. And communication is on top of all those soft skills. By following and practising these tips, you will improve your communication skills.

Hi Emily! I just finished reading “A Catholic Table” about 5 minutes ago and would love nothing more than to say the biggest thank you for writing this! Let me start by saying I’m a recent Catholic convert as of Easter this year. I struggled (still struggle) with an eating disorder for about 7 years. From anorexia to binging, it’s been a journey. For YEARS I attended therapy, read books, tried online resources, but nothing hit me quite like your book because it’s based on biblical TRUTH! I’m beyond grateful to have come across this book. It’s exactly what I’ve been searching for for years. I was in tears by the end of it because of how thankful I am to have found this. Your story is incredible and your guidance is going to be life-changing. I really hope you see this comment and know what an impact you are going to make in my life! Thank you and God bless you!
